As someone new to this project, I watched the last meeting that had many comments from the community. People were concerned with transportation, historic preservation, public access, architectual designs and the state environmental process.I saw the differnt alternative proposals and have read letters and statements by both sides. The Economic Developement Corporation has granted this project 10% of the money needed to complete this construction. The community has been positive about the plan. I feel the 10% funding should represent at least 10% of the alternative proposals for the project. The developers should listen to an organized group with positive recomendations. They should meet with this group as a partner(10%) and discuss some options.I believe 2% access for public viewing isn't enough. My personal concern is the type of restaurant offered to the community. Will it be another restaurant that prices out 90% of the Saugerties population and enable customers with high incomes to participated in high end food entrees and sunset views. Will the sevice workers afford to eat there? Is it for our community or some other community? It's interesting that a park was planned ten years ago but funding wasn't available but now it is when the country is in such a financial decline.Does politics play a role here? A polititician is involved and a partner in developement. The developers should be open and talk without being threatened by alternative groups. They should think about our community first and their future profits second. Risking capital is both a public and private affair in this case.

Or, alternatively, they scrap the plans entirely, and you continue to look at a big fenced in pile of dirt and rocks like you've had for the last twenty years. Dirt and rocks, by the way, which have a remarkably bad track-record of dining at local restaurants, creating anything resembling a "job" for anyone, and which look stunningly ugly.

It's a matter of whether each side is willing to call the other side's bluff, and -- quite frankly -- Saugerties needs development FAR more than a wealthy developer needs Saugerties.

And, seriously, you live like just about as far from the site and still be in Saugerties. I bet the people who are staring at that dirt-pile every day would be a lot happier to see it developed than to see it languish.

You can't always get everything you want. "Perfect" is the enemy of "Good Enough."

I would hope that Saugerties would come out of the ice age and build something so that the town can survive. I used to play on Nanny Goat hill and climb into the caves on the side of it. And a man who lived across from there mowed the grass and cut the weeds.I am sure it was not kept up since he passed away. No one would give it a second thought if geologist that does'nt live in that town and pay all those taxes had'nt come snopping around. Give some hope to Saugerties. If someone wants to invest money and pay taxes, let him. I would love to come back and see some improvement. One of the last things my mom said before she died in the hospital was she was worried about her taxes. That is a bitter memory for me towards all those people that fought everyone who wanted to expand the village and make it a place were your children could go to college and stay in the area and work. And that would make it affordable for people to live. My parents worked all there lives, raised five children and had my grandmother live with us too. My mom had the money for the taxes, that wasn't the issue. Her and Dad wanted to leave us something and so she tried to live on only her ss check so that the money that her and dad had worked so hard to save would be there for us. Please help Saugerties grow. Bring it back to the days of IBM and Rotron and Russel'ls mill. Don't let a rock that only a few of us even knows about keep something good happening for Saugerties. Sincerely, Julie Caruso Price

I was given to understand that the alternative plans for Partition Street development would be posted on this web site, following David Minch's email to the newspaper regarding the proposals and explaining how they would improve the project. Needless to say, the descriptions would be more relevant with the drawings that go with them.

I'm not sure what view you hope to maintain, but from the Partition street side the view of the the falls hasn't been accessible in years and is down right dangerous. To get to it, you would have to be trespassing. By mid-summer, there is no view because of all the brush growth. Prior to that, there was a gigantic mill in front of the view.
